Kennel Smirnoff I started breeding the wonderful russian sighthound BORZOI in 1973, where my first choice for a dog was DKCH KBHV79 Bjerglunds Sagar. I first met the BORZOI, when I was looking for a new dog after my marriage. I grew up with dog, cat and birds and now I was looking for a dog - of course a dachs - as we always have had at home. We went to the Bjerglunds kennels, but my disappointment was huge, since there was no dachs-puppies for sale. I saw the BORZOI and immediately fell in love with the proud and aristocratic behaviour, the incredible looks and mysterious nature. I have to admit - my soul was sold in the minut I saw this wonderful dog!! I realised there was puppies available, and when I saw them in their fencing, I immediately slipped into them and began to pet them. They were the most adorable little creatures and espacially there was a tiny Prince Charming who sleepy opened an eye, yarned for his life and went back to sleep again won my heart. I was rather thoughtful by getting such a big dog instead of a dachs - the breeder explained the advances and disadvances of the breed - and I liked what I heard. We made an agreement tht I could go home and think it over, and the puppie would be hold back for me until i had made my decission. The very next day my first BORZOI took over the house, and DKCH KBHV79 Bjerglunds Sagar became the foundation in my breeding. Shortly after I became member of The Danish Breeders Club (The Danish Kennel Club), and I wanted to try showing my dog - but unfortunately it didn't go that well, the dog was fine, the handler had to go home for practising. At the next show everything was much better!! We went to a lot of shows and thougt it would be nice with another BORZOI - maybe even a bitch. We were lucky to get one of two bitches coming from Podolsk in Russia, we got one called Ludmila and later we got another bitch, Vangsborgs Varinka. We agreed upon starting the Smirnoff kennels in case we later should want to breed. My dream was to breed Sagar and Ludmilla, but she never got in heat, so we ended up mating Sagar and the sister of Ludmila . From this litter I chose a wonderful red male called Stiva and in 1980 the first breeding of "Smirnoff's" was made out of Varinka sired by Stiva. My breeding is founded in these bloodlines, and I have carefully chosen the russian bloodlines in my breeding combined with the deep red colour as my priority choise. I have chosen to improve my breeding with the excellent movements form the american bloodlines. I have in my breeding been able to maintain the russian lines by selected matings with dogs from Eastern Europe. The Smirnoff kennels have through quality breeding achived 46 champions and has for years been amongst the TOP 10 Borzois iun Denmark, and today there are many champions from Smirnoff kennels, espacially in Denmark, but also in Germany, Poland, The Czech Republic and The United States. We have gained a lot of titles with our dogs including several International Champions, Youth Worldwinners and Country-/Regional winners. In the year 2000 the Smirnoff kennels were Breeder of the year for the 5th times in the last 6 years, just as the Bitch of the year was Smirnoff's Qushinka. The future of The Smirnoff kennels is very exciting, I expect a lot from my last litter, where my bitch Smirnoff Vedma (efter DKCH LDSG98 KLBCH Ridgeside Oliver x DKCH KBHV95 LDSG97 VDHCH Smirnoff Olinka) is very promising. |
